Supervision and Safety
Description
Supervisors must have knowledge of health and safety with respect to matters within their authority. A supervisor is defined by Saskatchewan occupational health and safety legislation as a person who is authorized by an employer to oversee or direct the work of the employer’s worker. The Supervision and Safety training ensures that all supervisors have the legislated knowledge required in their role.
All supervisors, as defined above, must obtain their supervision and safety certificate. By the end of this one-day course, participants will know how to:
- Review, navigate and cite The Saskatchewan Employment Act and The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020.
- Summarize the legal duties of a supervisor, explain how to demonstrate due diligence and understand a notice of contravention, a compliance undertaking and summary offense ticketing.
- Demonstrate how to identify hazards, assess risks and implement controls.
- Review the elements of an occupational health and safety program and understand a supervisor’s duty to ensure workers are orientated and trained.
- Demonstrate how to conduct workplace inspections and create inspection records.
- Demonstrate how to resolve a worker’s concern and explain the role of a supervisor during a work refusal.
